Wing Shooting | Texas Teal Camp
September brings the rice rockets. For a precious few days each year, our Coastal Plains Outpost becomes ground zero for one of waterfowling's purest pursuits. When teal pour into Texas like a feathered avalanche, cutting through dawn skies at impossible speeds, we're there waiting. This isn't just early season hunting—it's the moment when summer's long wait explodes into autumn's wild promise.
Teal – Blue Wing, Green Wing and Cinnamon
Rice rockets. That’s what we call them when they blur past the decoys at dawn, cutting through September air like feathered missiles. After breeding in the Prairie Potholes of the Dakotas and Canadian provinces, these acrobatic masters follow ancient highways south—the Mississippi and Central Flyways guiding them to our Texas coastal marshes and flooded rice.
No other duck demands such quick reflexes or rewards clean shooting quite like teal. They arrive with September’s first cool breaths, transforming quiet waters into a hunter’s proving ground. Fast, unpredictable, and absolutely unforgiving of poor form—this is how waterfowl season truly begins.
